The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, disclosed this to State House journalists.
Shehu, who confirmed that the president had taken the war against corruption to the civil service, said Buhari was not happy that standard operating procedures and financial regulations were no longer observed in public service.
He quoted Buhari as vowing to ensure that from now, public officials and civil servants in the service of the Federal Government pay a heavy price for violating financial regulations or disregarding audit queries.
He said President Buhari had, therefore, directed the Auditor-General of the Federation to ensure that all outstanding audit queries are conclusively resolved within 30 days.
Shehu added that President Buhari had also ordered that henceforth, all audit queries must be answered within 24 hours. He said the orders followed Buhari's displeasure on hearing that audit queries remained unanswered for long periods, sometimes running into years, under previous administrations.
